Robb Schmidt

Owner-Funeral Director

Robb grew up in DeSmet, South Dakota, and graduated from DeSmet High School in 1987. He then graduated from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and Business Administration. Robb attended the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service, receiving an Associated of Applied Science in Funeral Service Degree in 1993. Robb has been employed at the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home from 1995 until February 2008, when he purchased the funeral home, now Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.

Robb is a member of the National Funeral Directors Association and a Past-President of the South Dakota Funeral Directors Association (2004), South Canyon Lutheran Church,Rapid City Moose Lodge and Arrowhead Country Club. He has also volunteered with Rapid City Midget Football and Canyon Lake Little League.

Ozzie Osheim

Ozzie grew up in Canton, South Dakota and graduated from Canton High School in 1945. After serving with the U. S. Navy Seabees, he returned to South Dakota and attended the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with an Associates Degree in Mortuary Science Degree in 1952. While at the School of Mines, he lived and worked at the Hobart Funeral Home.

The firm was sold to Dennis and Delores Catron in 1964. Ozzie was associated with the Catron Funeral Home until he and his wife, Beverly, purchased the funeral home in 1974. He has been active in funeral service in Rapid City for over seventy years.

He is a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Morning Optimists, Elks Lodge #1187, and Loyal Order of Moose Rapid City Lodge #1137.

He is a Past-President of the South Dakota Funeral Directors Association and Past Policy Board Representative and Executive Committee Member of the National Funeral Director's Association.

Terry L Gilbertson, CFSP

Terry grew to adulthood on a farm north of DeSmet, SD where he attended school and graduated from DeSmet High School. He then attended Dakota State University, Eastfield University, and graduated from the Dallas Institute in Dallas, Texas with a Degree in Mortuary and Funeral Service Science and while there was an officer in the Phi Sigma Eta Fraternity

He was employed with Osthus Funeral Home in DeSmet and Bryant for nine years and then was with Miller-Huebl Funeral Home in Aberdeen for 17 years where he served as Manager. He was with Welter Funeral Home in Huron, SD for a short time before moving to Rapid City in 2009 and became associated with Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Terry, also know as TLG to many people, has been involved with funeral service since 1981.

He is a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #590 in Aberdeen where he served in several offices including President and was also Vice President of the Council of Higher Degrees and was appointed Deputy Supreme Governor for the Supreme Council of Moose International at Chicago, Illinois serving the states of South Dakota and North Dakota. Terry is a Past President of the Executive Board of the North/South Dakota Moose Association and continues to be Chairman of committees. On May 25, 2013 Terry received the highest honor in the Moose Fraternity, the Pilgrim Degree of Merit, at the House of God on the campus of Mooseheart, Illinois. He is a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Rapid City Moose Lodge #1137, a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and a volunteer at Cornerstone Rescue Mission. Terry was involved with the Big Brothers of The Black Hills Program where he was a mentor. Terry was a South Dakota Licensed Foster Parent with the Lutheran Social Service Foster/Adopt Program where he has fostered several kids over the years, and currently has 12 foster grandkids.

He also has been involved with and a member of the SD Jr. Olympics where he served as Vice President, Aberdeen Lions Club where he served as Vice President, National Funeral Ethics Association, South Dakota Funeral Directors Association and served as President of District 4 and District 5 for several years and also past Vice-President, National Funeral Directors Association, Academy of Funeral Service Practitioners where he is a Certified Funeral Service Practitioner (CFSP), West Bethany Cemetery Association where he served as Sexton and Treasurer for 35 years, Duke University Iron Dukes, YMCA, several high school and university athletic Booster Clubs and many times served as an officer including President, Jaycees, Optimist Club, Exchange Club, Chamber of Commerce, NSU Loyal Order of Gyps, Ducks Unlimited, and Pheasants Forever. Terry also while at DeSmet, coached Jr. High Girls and Jr. High Boys Basketball at the DeSmet and Hamlin School Districts.

Dwight Edstrom

Dwight Edstrom is a native of the Black Hills, born in Rapid City and raised in Deadwood.

He was influenced by his father to begin his career in a noble profession as a way to serve people. While in high school, Dwight began working at Wells Funeral Home in Deadwood. While attending Dakota Wesleyan University, Dwight served his apprenticeship at Milliken Funeral Home in Mitchell. He received his degree in mortuary science, Mu Sigma Alpha, from the California College of Mortuary Science in Los Angeles in 1975 and immediately returned to the Black Hills.

He was associated with the Fidler Edstrom Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Lead, moving to Rapid City in 1979. Dwight married JoAnn Tusha in Rapid City in 1979. He worked for the Campbell, Paula and Quinn funeral service for 20 years before joining the staff at Osheim Catron Funeral Home. Dwight added his name to Serenity Springs Funeral Chapel in 2008.

Dwight is proud to return to Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home and looks forward to continuing the relationships with the families he has served over the years.

Dwight is a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, the Shrine of Democracy Barbershop Chorus, Skyline Toastmasters Club, Rapid City Rotary, and NAJA Shrine Temple.

Dwight is grateful to JoAnn for sharing with him her six children, fifteen grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Throughout his career, and the many changes in funeral service, Dwight still believes in this noble profession and strives to live up to his fathers'standards and serve families with compassion in their time of need.

J. Buck Dyck

Jonathan “Buck” Dyck and his family moved to Rapid City in 2022 from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Buck is a graduate of the University of New Mexico, where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts in education. Later, attending Amarillo College in Texas where he obtained his mortuary science degree. Buck practiced funeral service in the Albuquerque community for 15 years before moving to the beautiful Black Hills.

He and his wife Stephanie have two children, Dimitri, and Reina. They enjoy road trips, the outdoors and just spending time together. On Sunday mornings, their family worships at Crossroads Wesleyan Church.

Buck also served for many years as a board member and as President of the New Mexico Funeral Service Association. He now serves as District 4 President of the South Dakota Funeral Directors Association.

Buck is honored to be a South Dakota licensed funeral director and still maintains an active license in New Mexico. He is passionate about serving families in their time of need and helping them honor those they love.

Myron has for the past 25 years had the privilege of serving families at Osheim & Schmidt funeral home.

Myron grew up in Bowman, North Dakota. Graduated from National College of Business. Was manager of Kinney Shoes for 30 years then went to Calvary Lutheran Church as Business Manager for 18 years. Is a member of Calvary Lutheran Church.

Myron is married to Connie (Scull) of Rapid City. We have three children Sonya, Brent, & Tonya, 11 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren.

W.H. (Bill) Schmidt

W.H. (Bill) Schmidt, and wife Rita, have lived in Rapid City for the past ten years. His career began in High School working at the local funeral home and ambulance service in North Dakota. During college years, he gained funeral service experience in two funeral homes and graduated from the University of Minnesota Department of Mortuary Science.

He has worked as a funeral service practitioner for over 50 years. Bill is licensed in North Dakota, South Dakota and previously in Minnesota where he owned and operated a funeral home for nearly three decades. More recently, Bill enjoyed serving as a business advisor to funeral homes in four states.

Bill desires to continue serving professionally, to bless families who are walking through the grief process following death. His own family has experienced the death of a close family member which has fostered empathy for others going through loss.

Bill and Rita are the parents of two sons and are grateful for their six grandchildren in Rapid City and Phoenix, Arizona.

Robert Broderick

Robert has been serving bereaved families since 1994, joining the staff at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home in 2019.

Robert grew up in Chadron, Nebraska and graduated from Chadron High School. He attended Chadron State College, the University of Nebraska “Go Big Red”, and the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) in Edmond, Oklahoma, graduating with his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mortuary Science in 1996. Rob is licensed in South Dakota, Nebraska, and Minnesota.

Robert is married to Jennifer (Meyer) of Chadron. Together they have two daughters, Ayla Ann and Rehgan Marie.

Jes Scott

Jes Scott is a native of Rapid City. After graduating from Stevens High School in 2004, she went on to attend the University of South Dakota graduating in 2009. Following USD, Jes attended Mortuary School in Colorado, graduating with her Mortuary Science degree in 2010. Jes completed her one-year apprenticeship at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home and has been working here since.

Jes is involved in the Rapid City Chamber of Commerce, Young Professionals Group and is a member of the National Funeral Director Association and the South Dakota Funeral Directors Association. Jes has been an avid volunteer in the Rapid City Community. She has regularly served meals at the Cornerstone Rescue Mission, taught Religious Education to the Catholic youth in the Rapid City Diocese for 12 years, volunteered at Westhills Village Health Care activity department, Love INC, Life INC Jobs For Life Mentor, and is still active in the Love INC Fall Dessert Banquet.

In August of 2013, Jes was one of 50 funeral directors under 40 in the nation selected to participate in the NFDA (National Funeral Directors Association) Meet the Mentor’s Program at the Harvard Faculty Club in Cambridge, Massachusetts's. Here she gained extensive insight and knowledge on the advancements of funeral service in the 21st century.
